Springboard to Success

Spring is the perfect time to begin preparing for college. Just like a garden needs care to grow, your future does too.
Choosing the right college can feel overwhelming, but it helps to start by thinking about what kind of environment fits you best. Do you like big cities or quiet towns? Small classes or large lecture halls? There’s no “one size fits all” when it comes to college, and learning about your options early can help you feel more confident about your path.
Getting ready for college also means building strong habits now. Simple things like keeping a planner, setting aside time to study, or staying on top of your assignments can make a big
difference. The more you practice these skills in high school, the easier the transition to college will feel.
Spring is also a great time to look for scholarships. There are many scholarships available to high school students, even before senior year. Some are based on grades, but others are focused on creativity, leadership, or community service. Taking the time to apply now could help you pay for college later.
To give you some real-world perspective, AAEC has advice from current college students. They can share what they wish they had known during high school and what helped them the most.
Their words might give you ideas, encouragement, or just a reminder that you’re not alone in this journey.
We invite you to take a moment for yourself. Imagine who you want to be in the next few years. What kind of college experience are you hoping for? What goals do you have? Write a short note to your future self about your hopes and plans. It’s a small way to reflect on where you are now and where you want to go.
College might still feel far away, but every seed you plant this spring—whether it’s a habit, a
goal, or a dream—can grow into something
